“in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility.” (Titus 2:7, NKJV)
Paul, in this verse, encourages his spiritual son, Titus, to be a pattern or model of good works to others. Titus is a spiritual leader in the city of Crete. Paul understands that leadership means both recognition and influence, which also means responsibility. People not only hear what the leader says, but they also watch what the leader does and how he or she lives.
You may not hold a particular office or title as a leader, but as children of God you have influence. Others are influenced by what you say, what you do and how you live your life. God’s call for every one of us is to “be an example to the believers and unbelievers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity,” (I Timothy 4:12).
As you go through this day, be conscious of the words you say and the things you do. Remember, you are a person of influence. You are a representative of the Most High. As Jesus says, you must “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven,” (Matthew 5:16). In other words, BE A PATTERN.
