BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE

“Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NKJV)

These words were spoken by God to Joshua as he was given the assignment to lead Israel from the wilderness into the Promise Land. Israel was to go and possess the land. The problem was that possessing the land meant dispossessing it from their enemies, which meant facing much opposition. Joshua, as the leader, was encouraged to “Be strong and of good courage,” so that he might lead the nation into their inheritance.

Though these were the words God spoke to Joshua thousands of years ago, I believe they are God’s words for everyone who is a child of God through Jesus the Christ today, “Be strong and of good courage.” As we all face obstacles, opposition and the general challenges of life, we who serve a victorious savior, must not waver in our faith. We are told that we are “more than conquerors through Him who loves us,” and therefore, we must be strong and of good courage when we face the trials and challenges of life. We have the promise that God is with us. We have the assurance that we have already conquered. Now we must get in and “fight the good fight of faith,” (I Timothy 6:12) knowing “He who has begun a good work in us will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ,” (Philippians 1:6).

Therefore, do not give up. Keep fighting and winning, knowing victory is already yours. Just continue, to be BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE.
