CONSULT WITH THE LORD

"It happened after this that David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?” And the Lord said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” And He said, “To Hebron.”" (II Samuel 2:1, NKJV)

In yesterday's devotion I told you, you must trust the Spirit of God within you when making major life's decisions. I shared with you that within each of us, there is the Spirit of God that gives us understanding. Today I would encourage you to trust the Spirit within you, but do not forget to CONSULT WITH THE LORD.

The Bible tells us that David was a man after God's own heart. David constantly sought to please the Lord in all he did. One of the reasons David was so well thought of by God is that David constantly sought the Lord's counsel in all that He did, before making major decisions. This verse informs us, before going into battle, "David inquired of the Lord . . ."

One of the reasons we make so many mistakes in life is that we make major decisions without consulting the Lord. We tend to think we can handle things on our own. Yet we must remember, our steps are "ordered by the Lord." We must not go into life's battles without inquiring of Him as to what to do and when to do it.

Do not neglect to inquire of the Lord on a daily basis. Trust the Spirit within, but make sure you consult with God before making major life changes. This will save you much heartache, trouble and wasted time. Remember, God knows and wants what's best for you. Do not forget to CONSULT WITH THE LORD.
