"Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety." (Proverbs 11:14, NKJV)
You know, too often, we try to make major, life changing decisions without seeking wise counsel. When we do so, many times, we end up having major regrets later. Too many of us are either too proud to ask someone for advice, or we think by asking for help it is a sign of weakness or immaturity. Yet, the truth is, not asking is a sign of immaturity.
Solomon, who is said to be the wisest person who ever lived (separate from Jesus of course) lets us know that there is safety in wise counsel. Solomon tells us that when we do not seek wise counsel, both plans and people fall. Conversely, when we get advice from those who have wisdom in a particular area, we find safety, security and success.
Now granted, all counsel is not wise counsel. You cannot heed the advice of everyone. You would not go to someone who lives in poverty and ask that person the plan to become wealthy. No one has all knowledge but God, and you should always go to Him first. But, everyone can tell you something that might be helpful to you, based on his or her own life experiences. Even if the advice they give is what not to do.
Life is filled with decisions and choices. Seek the wisdom of others before making those major decisions. Seeking wise counsel does not make you immature or weak. It is actually a testimony of your strength and intelligence. Success favors those who seek and heed the wisdom of the wise. Wisdom teaches if you want to be successful, DON'T TRY TO GO IT ALONE.
