“Good and upright is the Lord; . . .” (Psalm 25:8, NKJV)
There is a popular saying in many churches that is a truism. That statement is,
“God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good.” If you go to almost any,
predominantly African American Church in the United States, stand and say, “God
is Good,” you will hear the response given back emphatically, “All the time.”
You know, this is more than just a good saying to rally the masses. The reality is
that God “IS” good, and He is good “all the time.” The Psalmist here declares,
“Good and upright is the Lord; . . .” It does not matter what we might be going
through, God is still good. Regardless of what is happening in our lives at the
present, “God is good.” In every situation, under any and every circumstance,
“God is good.”
Not only is God good, the Psalmist declares, He is “upright.” The word upright
here means “faithful.” God is good and He is faithful. Faithful means, consistent,
or in other words, “all the time.” God fulfills His promises, “all the time.” His
love is never ceasing, “all the time.” His compassion fails not, “all the time.” He
is merciful, “all the time.”
You can rest on that word. You can declare it in confidence. You can encourage
yourself in your time of need. GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME!
