"Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus." (Ephesians 5:1; Galatians 3:26)
The Apostle Paul in both these verses encourages Christians to imitate or be like God, as we are the children of God. Paul reminds us that we are all "sons" of God through faith. As children of God, we should seek to be like our Heavenly Father.
As a son of my biological father, I look like my father. I have similar physical characteristics of my father. Those who know my father and me can look at me and see that I “favor” my father. Also, having grown up with my father I find myself saying some of the same things, now as an adult, that my father said to me when I was a child. I have learned to, somewhat, think like my father.
The same ought be true for those of us who are children of God through faith in Jesus. We should bear the image of our Heavenly Father, so that when people see us they see God. We should have the characteristics of our father, for He is merciful, compassionate, loving, understanding, patient and forgiving. These are just a few attributes of our Father that we should emulate.
Let us live so that our lives resemble that of our Heavenly Father, for we are all “sons of God, through faith in Christ Jesus.” As we interact with others let us make sure that they can see our Father in us. The world should look at each of us who call ourselves Christian and declare, "LIKE FATHER LIKE SON.”
