“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do
not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”
(Genesis 15:1, NKJV)
God’s promise to Abram, later renamed Abraham, was a direct result of Abrams’
faith and faithfulness to God. Abram learned to trust God even when He did not
understand what God was doing or why. As a result, God promised Abram that He
Himself would be Abrams shield or protection and his reward.
As children of Abraham by faith, God has made us the same promise. As we walk
or live our lives by faith and are faithful to God, He has made each one of us the
same promise. If we will live our lives by faith, we too can expect God’s
protection and reward. Rewards are given as a prize for some act of bravery or a
demonstration of positive character. God has promises if we are courageous
enough to trust and depend on Him when we cannot see our way or understand
what He allows, He will be our reward. In other words, all the attributes and
blessings of God will be ours.
Keep walking by faith. Maintain your faithfulness to God even in the most trying
of times. Know that while you are walking by faith God is protecting you. And at
the end of your faith walk you have earned the prize of His reward. God Himself
will be YOUR PROTECTION AND YOUR REWARD.
